The Respiratory (Lung) Unit in Tawau Specialist Hospital, under Dr. Arfian Ibrahim houses specialized equipment to provide our patients with various procedures and services.

Spirometry

Spirometry ("measuring the breath") is a simple test to measure the amount of air that a person can breath in and out. It is a test for lung function and can be used to diagnose many lung related illnesses. 

Sleep Study and Home Continuous Positive Airway pressure (CPAP)

The Respiratory (Lung) Unit offers a basic sleep study to diagnose problems such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Treatment such as Home CPAP is offered here.

 

Bronchoscopy and Pleuroscopy 

 

Bronchoscopy and Pleuroscopy are nonsurgical procedures used to examine the respiratory system.

 

A bronchoscopy is a procedure where an endoscope is passed through the  mouth and throat, into the lung, thus allowing for the trachea and bronchial tree to be examined.

A pleuroscopy is where an endoscope is passed into the chest cavity to inspect the chest as well as the lung.
